Emergency Plumber Wangi Wangi

Wangi Wangi Plumbing Co runs an emergency plumber service for the peninsula, day and night: burst pipes, overflowing sewers, failed hot water units and gas smells. Ring (02) 4093 0558, describe the fault, and a fixed price comes back before any work starts. Below: what counts as urgent, and what to do first.

The full service list, from drains to strata work, sits on the Wangi Wangi Plumbing Co home page.

When should you ring tonight instead of waiting?

A dripping tap can sit overnight. These can't:

  • Water pouring from a ceiling, wall or under the floor
  • A tap or fitting you cannot shut off
  • A sewer overflow reaching living areas
  • Every tap in the house gone dry
  • Gas you can smell in a room or by the meter box

A basin that drains slowly or a tap that drips can be booked for daylight hours. Those five warrant a call as soon as you spot them.

What a night callout here covers

The urgent work splits into three groups, and each gets treated on the spot:

Escaping water

Burst lines, split fittings and failed washers, shut off and then repaired or replaced.

Overflow and blockage

Surcharged stormwater and sewer lines cleared with the jetter or eel, with the cause checked on camera if the line keeps blocking.

Hot water and gas

Failed units diagnosed and made safe, and any smell of gas treated as gas leak detection work, not a wait-and-see.

A burst pipe: first moves before we arrive

A burst keeps spreading water until the supply is off, and the first moves need no tools.

  • Turn the stop tap next to the water meter clockwise until it stops. The whole house is then off.
  • Open a garden tap. Draining the pressure stops the push through the split.
  • Switch the hot water system off at the board if the water is anywhere near it.
  • Lift floor rugs, cardboard and power leads clear of the water, then ring (02) 4093 0558.

Carpet and timber floors soak up water fast, so do these before anything else.

Booking the emergency visit

From the first ring to the water stopped, the callout runs the same four steps every time:

  1. 01

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4093 0558 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 02

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 03

    The water stops first

The shut-off at the meter gets closed or the failed line isolated, so the damage stops growing while the fault is traced and fixed.

  4. 04

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

How is after-hours work priced?

Pricing a job at night comes down to:

  • The hour Anything from late evening to dawn is dearer than a weekday booking, and you know by how much before the van moves.
  • Access A burst under a subfloor or above a ceiling means lifting and drying time that a burst behind a laundry wall does not.
  • Parts Common fittings travel with us; a part that has to be ordered in can mean a temporary repair tonight and a return visit.
  • The extent A repair that holds the line tonight may be the full fix, or the first stage, and the camera decides which before you commit.

We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.

When we're not the right call

Water bubbling up through the footpath or the road, before it ever reaches your meter, is for Hunter Water's faults line. Scorch marks on the fuse box, or power that drops out whenever the hot water heats, need a sparky before any plumber.

How this peninsula breaks its pipes

Old lines, sudden endings

Wangi Wangi's cottages went up from the 1950s to the 1970s, many of them fibro or weatherboard, and plenty still carry the pipework they were built with. Pipe that old can split without warning, and where salt air has thinned a fitting, it gives way sooner.

Salt on three sides

The lake around the peninsula is tidal and salty, and fittings on the blocks facing it wear faster than those inland.

Storm nights on low ground

Heavy Hunter storms send run-off downhill to the lake, and the low shore blocks sit inside mapped flood planning areas. A floor waste spilling on a stormy night points to a surcharged stormwater line, and it gets cleared and checked, not just bailed.

On a burst pipe at night:

"I commend them for their very fast and efficient service when we had a burst pipe." Joan

Where the work goes next

An emergency callout can open a bigger question. These hubs pick up where the night call ends:

Plumber finishing a continuous-flow gas hot water install

Hot water service and repair

For a unit that failed once and will fail again

Gas fitter checking an oven connection

Gas fitting and gas leaks

For anything from a smell to a full appliance install

Plumber feeding a drain camera into a pit at a commercial unit

Blocked drains and sewers

When the overflow traced back to a blocked line

Drain camera monitor showing the inside of a pipe

Hidden water leak tracing

For damp that arrived without a burst

What people ask when it's urgent

A pipe has burst in my Wangi Wangi home. What do I do first?

Turn off the stop tap at the water meter, run an outside tap to bleed off the pressure, and lift anything water can spoil off the floor. If the leak is near the hot water unit, switch that off at the power box too. Then ring (02) 4093 0558 and describe what you can see.

My floor waste backed up after a storm on a low-lying street. Is that urgent?

If water is coming inside, yes, ring now. After heavy rain the low lines near the lake surcharge, so what rises through the floor waste may be stormwater rather than sewage. The line gets cleared that night, and you hear whether the stormwater run needs more work later.

Does it cost more for you to come out at night?

Yes. Midnight and Sunday visits sit on a dearer rate than weekday daylight, and we name it during that first phone call. After the burst or blockage has been inspected, the fix gets its own fixed figure for you to accept or decline.

Who pays for a burst pipe on the nature strip?

Hunter Water looks after the service pipe between the main and your meter, so a split there goes on their fault line. Past the meter, toward the house, the owner is responsible, and that stretch is what we repair and warrant.
